COMMON PESTS
Fleas and Ticks
Fleas are wingless, blood-sucking insects that feed on dogs, cats, humans and other species. Fleas prefer dog and cat hosts, but in the absence of a preferred host will use humans or other available animals as a host. Bites frequently occur around the waist, ankles, armpits, and in the bend of the elbows and knees. Once fleas are established, eliminating them requires persistence. The problem will continue until the fleas are eliminated. The objective of our treatment is to break the fleas’ 4 stage life cycle by treating the home, the pets and the outside environment. Do-it-yourself home foggers and flea collars are not always effective and often cost you more in the long run.
Considering the large amount of press given to mosquitoes and West Nile virus in recent years, it may surprise you to know that when it comes to public health, the most worrisome arthropod in the nation is still the tick. Ticks are responsible for more people getting sick in this country than all other arthropods combined. During the past ten years, more than 100,000 cases of Lyme Disease have been reported in the U.S. These pathogens are transmitted to humans by the bite of a tick. 70 percent of the people infected with Lyme Disease were bitten by ticks in their own yard. Let SAWYER help you significantly reduce your chances of being a victim.
* If you choose a flea treatment it will be necessary for you to follow certain steps to prepare your home. We will advise you on how to vacuum, clean and clear all floors, including the closets and under the beds, sweep and mop, handle pets and pet bedding. If you include a tick treatment, we will have additional instructions for you to follow.
